Hey everyone! So as you might have heard, Huntress #1 comes out this Wednesday October 5. I thought that I’d hold a contest for my Tumblr followers before the book is released. The prizes are as follows:

FIRST PRIZE: The original art to the Huntress teaser poster I created for Tumblr, a signed mini print of the teaser poster, and a signed copy of Huntress #1.

SECOND PRIZE: A signed mini print of the Huntress teaser poster, a signed copy of Huntress #1, and a Huntress pencil head sketch.

THIRD PRIZE: A signed mini print of the Huntress teaser poster, and a signed copy of Huntress #1.

HOW TO ENTER: Reblog this post! Extra good-luck karma points if you tell your friends about the book if you think they would like it, even if they don’t read comics (hey, it couldn’t hurt!) The winners will be chosen at random out of all the people who reblogged. Likes don’t count for the contest, but count in my heart :)

The contest starts NOW! And will end at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, October 5.

Thanks to all of you in advance for getting the word out about Huntress, and for your continued support from Red Robin to Huntress to whatever comes next.

OMG, how beautiful is that art? ::does a Fluttershy!yay::

Notes from the DC Roadshow: Well, that’s that, isn’t it?

dcwomenkickingass:

Bleeding Cool has posted reports from yesterday’s road show in Texas. And here you go:

You won’t be seeing Donna Troy yet in the new DCU, nor the Stephanie and Cassandra Batgirls. They haven’t been killed off though, just benched.

And the new readers they are targeting?

The target audience are men age 18 to 34 though they do realize that they have readers in other demographics.

I’m going to take a few moments.

…really? I mean…really?

Wow, I’m so glad that they realize that they have readers in demographics other than the 18-34 male one. They don’t feel compelled to reach out more than is absolutely necessary to those other demographics, but hey, at least they acknowledge their existence. How very progressive. Good for them. And heaven knows the 18-34 male group is a tragically ignored one.

Seriously, they might as well just add straight, white, able-bodied, and cis-gendered to that demographic. We all know that’s how they really feel at the end of the day.

No, DC, fuck you.

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

The new Justice League - Who makes up the rest of the 14?

dcwomenkickingass:

DC has released one official image for their September reboot; the cover of the new Justice League that will debut on August 31. (These are Lee’s pencils which he has released to show the GL ring).

Like others I was concerned that the picture, which is described as the team’s core and “the A-list” consists of 6 men and one woman and one POC. Argue all you want about why these folks were chosen; the image is what the image is. But DC has also announced that the team will expand to 14 members. Who will be the additional members of the new Justice League.? I have some thoughts below.

Oh god, the Jim Lee-ness of it all… D:

Anyway. Um, I don’t know how I’d feel about that group in the image being the new JLA. It…seems like kind of a messy mix of characters.

Personally, I’d have only one Aqua-person, one Hawk-person, and one Lantern on the team. My personal preference would be:

- Hawkwoman/Hawkgirl for the Hawk-person (Carter can have the ongoing, let Shiera — I’m assuming it’s Shiera — have her own stories in JLA.

- Arthur for the Aqua-person (even though I like Mera better than Arthur — no slight intended towards Arthur — I can’t imagine a non-forced reason why she would want to join the League. It just seems that unless there’s some sort of crisis going on, she’d have other things to do in the ocean).

- Hal for the Lantern (I…I’m sorry…it’s not that I don’t like John or don’t want him on the team…it’s just…I like Hal also and, for purely selfish reasons, want to see him together with Barry…though…definitely not for the same reasons that Geoff Johns would want to see the two together… ::hangs head::).

I’d also have either Captain Marvel or Superman on the team, since their powers sort of make them redundant. I guess I’d opt for Superman and have Billy (and the other Marvels and co.) in a separate book that allows them to recover from the horrible thrashing that canon has given them in the past few years.

I’d also have Ryan Choi be the Atom, but I’m not that lucky, am I? :/

Starfire…could be interesting if they decide to go there, but I’m not heavily invested.

So that’s…what…six people so far? Add Diana (that costume! ::wails:: Dammit Jim Lee, why?), Bruce, Barry, Victor, J’onn…who else? I’d really like Vixen to be on the team, as well as Zatanna, for magic, and…hm. I’m going to throw out someone kind of weird and say blue Starman. Robinson didn’t really get to do all that much with Mikaal and I’m kind of curious what stories he could’ve had on the JLA. If not Mikaal, then Connor Hawke!Green Arrow, because he was pretty cool and has been in limbo for far to long, or Doctor Light, because her more caustic personality could be an interesting thing to add to the mix.

Now, on Earth-StarpiperActuallyGetsWhatSheWantsRegardlessOfEditorialWishes, I’d have the JLA comprised of mostly younger heroes. Robinson’s JLA run was lackluster, to be sure, but I like what he did in bringing together a group of younger heroes (and, um, Congorilla, who I think was the oldest of the bunch), half of whom were legacy heroes. So if I got to pick my own line-up of fourteen JLA members, no questions asked, resurrections doled out as needed, it would be:

Nightwing/Batman II, Supergirl, Cyborg, Donna Troy, either Wally!Flash or Jesse Quick, Tempest, Connor!Green Arrow, either Kyle!Green Lantern or Jade (I’m inclined to say Jade, since Kyle seems to be a good fit in GLC), Ryan!Atom, Kendra!Hawkgirl, Mikaal!Starman, Jaime!Blue Beetle, Traci 13, and Vixen.

And nobody would be wearing Jim Lee costumes. But that’s only on Earth-SAGWSWROEW.

NGL, this was pretty much the reason I got out of bed this morning.
I wonder if, in a DC-supported slash comic, Hal/Barry would still be the most boring slash pairing of all time? I suspect the answer is yes.
Also: I wish Kate/Renee had been switched out for a non-canon queer lady pairing, since all the other couples are fan-favourites that haven’t been acknowledged as canon. But you can’t have everything, I guess.

First of all this is awesome.
Second of all Slash is playing guitar in the background of all this DCU, well, slash.  Yup, greatest thing ever.

There is not a single thing I don’t like about this picture. :D In my mental universe, where this is A REAL SERIES TOTES, the second issue cover has Soranik/Iolande, Wally/Kyle, Garth/Roy, Rokk/Garth Ranzz, Barbara/Dinah, Jennie/Donna, and Brek/Dirk on it.

In the words of Lady Gaga, “I’m a free bitch, baby!”

Well, free-er, at any rate.

Ladies and gentlemen…I am now in possession of a masters degree (a masters degree where my grade for the final semester was a 4.0). After nine continuous years of being in the higher education system for one degree or another, I’m finally taking a break.

::screams with unfettered glee::

Now the only issue is to find a job.

Er…I’ll get back to you on that one.

Behind every Wonder Woman (or at least this one) there’s a Superman

dcwomenkickingass:

Wonder Woman shows up in Superman this week. And, oh my, do I have some things to say about this one. So much that it needed its own post. And I did throw this comic down in frustration. Spoilers.

You know what I need? I need that macro of Captain Picard saying “WTF IS THIS SHIT?” Because, seriously, WTF is this shit?

Superman #708 sees Superman being Timey-Wimeyed!Wonder Woman’s inspiration to enter a life of heroism. Her words were, and I quote (and include the bolding where the comic had it), “My sisters may have trained me to be a warrior, but you have shown me a glimmering of what it means to be a hero.”

…really? I mean, really?

Her fellow sisters, who have fought and protected and bled and died for her sake, didn’t give her a glimmering of what it means to be a hero. Her slain mother and dead civilization didn’t inspire her to be a hero that prevents bad things from happening to other people. She didn’t find some internal need to do good. No, it was Superman who was the shining example of heroism that inspired her.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with finding Superman inspirational. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Wonder Woman seeing Superman as admirable; as pointed out by people, pre-Timey-Wimey!Wonder Woman does see Superman as inspirational. What I do have a problem with is Wonder Woman’s impetus for being a hero coming from an external source, and, as one of the most (if not the most) iconic female heroes and a major feminist pop culture figure, her newfound raison d’etre coming from a guy who she’s known for all of five minutes. Pre-Timey-Wimey!Wondy might have admired Superman, but she did so with the admiration that one has for a peer and long-time good friend; she had already established her motivations for being a hero before meeting him. This new and not-so-improved Wondy wants to be a hero because she saw Superman do it and thought it was kind of awesome. Which, while kind of a reasonable response from some other young DCU hero, is not what I want the beginning of Wonder Woman’s, even a Timey-Wimeyed, deaged Wonder Woman, heroic career to look like.

(BTW, does anyone think that this would ever happen to Batman, even in an Elseworld? Can anyone imagine them publishing an Elseworld where Batman looks to the sky, sees Superman (or even better, Wonder Woman) doing something heroic and decides, hey maybe I could…? The closest thing I could think of was Thrillkiller.

So there’s another reason why I don’t like it — it makes her the only member of the Trinity whose heroic career was sparked by another hero.)

Now, I’ve seen people say in defense of this issue to read the entire thing. Context matters! Well, yeah, fair enough; context is important. That’s why yesterday when I went to go pick up my comics for this week, I gave Superman read through.

And you know what? CONTEXT ACTUALLY MADE IT WORSE FOR ME.

The context is the Superwoman of the future telling Clark that history indicates that he will influence a woman to become a hero. Insert Timey Wimey Wondy deciding that heroism is pretty cool.

So basically, Timey Wimey Wondy becoming a hero is a matter of historical importance…and it didn’t even happen in her own book. ::facepalm::

So, tl;dr - Having Supes inspire someone who will one day be important? Okay. Having Supes do that for Wonder Woman, who pre-Timey-Wimey was a self-made hero? Not cool.

…aaaaaand that may have been the longest thing I’ve written in the past six months or so that wasn’t related to higher education administration topics. O_o

Happy new year, my lovely flist! ::hugs:: Hoping the new year is filled with happy memories and good times!
